Messenger Service Popups are harmless windows (see illustration above) that display text messages on your screen. Contrary to the similarity in names, this is a system service and not related to MSN MessengerTM. The culprit exploits this service built into Windows 2000/ XP whose main task is to transmit "Alert messages" from a server to client computer in a corporate network (for example, a network administrator could send a message to all users on the network informing them of server maintenance).
This service is irrelevant to 99% of home users, even if you have multiple computers networked in your house.
There are two ways to stop Messenger Service Popups:
- Disable the service
- Install a hardware and/or software firewall

The Computer Management window will open.
